Got a Google Places Page for your business? Not any more…

If you’ve got yourself a Google Places page for your business, organisation or group, as we have for the church, you really need to read this article:
Google Places Is Over, Company Makes Google+ The Center Of Gravity For Local SearchSearch Engine Land.

Whilst for a while you’ve been able to add your organisation to Google, now all the existing organisations in Google Places have automatically been moved across. Whilst it makes sense to not have two services for essentially the same thing, Google Places page owners are obviously going to have to give themselves a quick crash course in Google+ to get the best out of it!

  1. To be honest, Google’s “let’s move everything over to Plus” drive at the moment is becoming a little sad. I use Plus, and actually prefer it to Facebook, but the fact remains that it hasn’t had quite the mass appeal that Google were clearly hoping for.

But that said, I agree that some Google+ crash courses would be a wise investment, if only in case it does catch on. I’m rather proud at being behind Political Scrapbook being the first (and still, I think, only) UK political blog on it.

  2. Same here, I’m on Plus, but it doesn’t get the kind of use that I make of other social networks. A big issue at the moment is the difficulty in getting content such as blog posts onto it. Whilst anything I post here automatically goes to Facebook and Twitter, it doesn’t go to Google+.
