Will the Real Craggy Island Please Step Forward

In an argument that could have come right out of an Arthur Mathews and Graham Linehan script for the show, two remote Irish islands are arguing over which of them has most right to be associated with Father Ted, the nineties comedy series about a priest living on a remote Irish island.

The source of the argument is the decision by Inis Mór to hold a ‘Friends of Ted’ event to mark the ninth anniversary of the death of Dermot Morgan who played Ted. However the nearby Inis Oirr is objecting, saying that they have more right to use the character as their island actually appeared in the show.

Having said that, it’s all a slightly crazy argument as Inis Oirr only appeared in the opening titles. All the Craggy Island locations are actually on the mainland – and the interior scenes were all filmed back in London!
