We finally got to see The Incredibles today, it being another one of those movies that we missed when it was released at the cinema. We picked it up this afternoon on DVD as one of the movies to keep the Youth Group entertained next weekend for the vigil.

Again, Pixar have excelled themselves, both technically and in terms of the movie. It is a surprisingly adult plotline in some ways, with the whole story of a superhero being forced into hiding after someone took legal action against him. The film also has an almost sixties throwback in terms of style, in some ways harking back to the look of some of the older Bond movies, or the Man from UNCLE. It is also reminiscent of the way that films like Batman blended the modern with an early twentieth century look, that has perpetuated into the recent animated versions of Batman and Superman.

As usual with a Pixar movie, the two DVD set is packed with extras, including behind the scenes documentaries, and an oscar nominated short. Even if you have seen the film at the cinema, the DVD is worth getting hold of for a new short, called “Jack-Jack Attacks”. If you remember in the movie, the baby is left with a sitter, who has left a series of increasingly desperate messages about problems with the baby, until the replacement babysitter arrives. This short is what is happening to her whilst the rest of the family are away, and it is very funny. Just remember, if you’re trying to aid the cognative development of a baby, be careful of what flash cards you use!
