A Historic Event

Anyone who has seen the opening of Fahrenheit 9/11 will remember the scenes of the joint session at which George Bush’s election was ratified where a procession of members of congress tried to protest against the irregularities in Florida, but were rejected because they didn’t have the backing of a senator.

This time around, although George Bush’s election has been ratified, objections raised over the Ohio vote have lead to a debate, as Senator Barbara Boxer backed the congresional objections. Not since the 1877 dispute over the election contest between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel J. Tilden has Congress has been forced into such a debate.

Michael Moore has reprinted the text of a NewsWeek article called In Defeat a Victory?. His site also includes transcripts and video of the debate.
