I’ve come across a somewhat annoying problem in my testing of Flock. I set the people bar up with my main accounts when I initially installed, but then yesterday I logged onto my twitter account for the first time in ages.
That shouldn’t be too much of a problem, as the browser is supposed to – and did pick up on my account details and offer to remember them in the people bar, unfortunately it totally failed to pick up anything more than the most basic details of the account.
I then tried clearing out my accounts and reattaching them, at which point everything else on the people bar behaved in the same way – in the end I had to reinstall Flock and recreate my profile.
The problem is not confined to the PC version. Having found the problem, I then tried adding twitter on the Mac, and exactly the same happened – I guess I’ll have to zap the profile on there too.

We had got it to record the second episode of Commander in Chief the short-lived drama starring Geena Davis as the first woman President of the United States. Whilst the technical details of the recording, and the recording itself are fine, the information is quite clearly the Jeremy Irons episode of Who Do You Think You Are? that was next in the planner. Interestingly the information for that was correct…
I have to say, whilst we wouldn’t be without the Sky+ now, it is decidedly buggy. It has periodic problems where it looses all the programme listings and needs to be powered off, and very occasionally really messes up. On one occasion I’ve actually had to pull the plug whilst it has been recording as the UI has totally seized up. Beth has also had a problem where she could get no picture out of the box, but it was quite happily recording – very strange. Maybe one day they’ll sort out all the bugs…
I’ve been having a pretty frustrating time with BlogMap of late – the little map on the sidebar that shows other local bloggers. I tweaked the location of the blog slightly, and all I tried to do was update the location. Simple you might think, it certainly was with geourl which has quite happily updated with the new location. BlogMap has produced a slightly different behaviour, and has quite happily listed the same blog twice in two different locations, one in the old, the other in the new location.
I’ve tried using the manual update form at http://www.feedmap.net/blogmap/ping.aspx but that just produces an error: “Unable to store blog. Please try again later. [ERROR: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value]â€? – not exactly helpful.
Anyway, at this point I thought I’d send some feedback asking for some help, which I did a few days ago, to be greeted with total silence, and the blog is still in the database twice, despite the fact that the pages and feeds are only outputting the new location, which implies that BlogMap is caching up the location and can’t detect duplicates in it’s database – a bit of a worry if for some reason you want to remove your location! (geourl will remove you from the database once you remove the relevant tags and ping their server to update.) I guess it’s a problem with trying out these beta tools, but as I commented previously, there is a way to run a beta programme, and the lack of response from the BlogMap site has left me less than impressed.
