SFX magazine is mounting a campaign to get more people to discover Firefly, a TV series that was made briefly last year, and cancelled after nine episodes had been shown in the USA (although thirteen were made and shown in the UK).
The series was created by Joss Whedon, better known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It centred on a freighter, the Serenity, and the adventures of her crew. The strange aspect was that there was a definite western feel to many of the planets, together with a strong Chinese influence. Unlike many series the episodes were well written and when we discovered the show, it was essential watching for Beth and me.
Following the cancellation there was a vocal campaign to save the series, which has ultimately resulted in Universal picking up the movie rights, and Serenity – The Movie hits the screens in April next year.
In the mean time, you can enjoy the entire series either on the Sci-Fi channel, or on DVD.
